Take me home James!

Today we were leaving Cape Cod. I was a little relieved about that for two reasons. The first, the weather had turned again and the skies were dark and rain was falling once more. Nothing worse than being at a beach town when it's raining. The second, the quaintness of this place was beginning to rot my teeth.

We packed up,left the hotel, set James - the satnav guy and headed back to Albany.

Sam suggested a stop off at Plymouth to see the Plymouth Rock, site of the first settlers to these shores and the Mayflower II. However, the ship itself was not there. Off being refurbished because it was deemed un sea worthy. That was a shame but here is how she looks when not potentially sinking,
The rock itself was there, obviously.

 Which is housed in this...

The story behind it is pretty interesting. It wasn't until some one hundred years after the actual event that it was decided this was the site of the landings. It seems it was based on the ramblings of some old man who wasn't even there at the time. As this plaque explains.

A map of the world as they saw it back then.
I do like old maps, so,elegant and look at all the artwork around the outside, depicting important people and events.
The journey was made again In the 50's, although I assume with better maps maybe.

After explaining to Sam that there was a Plymouth in England, and this is where the Mayflower sailed from, hence this town being called Plymouth, we thought about our old friend, Dave - the namer of towns and how one of his ancestors must of came over on the Mayflower and came up with the original name of Plymouth. We had a good chuckle as we hopped back into the car and drove back to New York , well the state of New York anyway.

Once home, we sat out on the deck, the weather now much better, a few fluffy clouds but mostly blue skies and sunshine. Now 5pm we enjoyed the sunshine before we thought about what the evening had in store for us.

Sam wanted to take me to a sushi restaurant, raw fish and rice eh? Well I know I had tried it before and, from memory, I wasn't repulsed, unlike that lobster! So we drove out to a rather posh looking place. There were lots of Japanese customers, which was a good sign for a Japanese restaurant. So I was hopeful.
I wasn't sure what to order, so we got a 'Love Boat' or as we renamed it 'The Boat of Mutual Respect'.
It had a selection of basic sushi and as you can see, looked pretty impressive. So we dug in, I even used the chopsticks, only using a fork when the rice fell in my soy sauce. I wasn't repulsed by it, it wasn't as bad as the lobster. However this is what I ended up eating...
So sushi is off my list. Before actually going home and tucking into my burger fries and milkshake, Sam took me to Cohoes, to see a waterfall.
The original plan of my trip was to go see Niagra falls but seeing as we didn't, Sam though it best to show me a waterfall that was local, you know, to get my waterfall-quota.
It is actually part of a hydroelectric system that helps power the town of Cohoes. We then turned tail, stopped into a Macdonalds and turned in for the evening. Sam has work tomorrow so ill be left to my own devises.

  3. I am wondering if that is the same sushi place that Sam brought me to. We had a 'boat' too... but I am sure it was not the love boat.
