There was a lot of faffing

We woke up to a rather cloudy day and it wasn't long before we started getting some heavy rain even thunder and lightning. We knew in advance that today wasn't going to be too good so we were not surprised. Sam cooked a lovely breakfast and we hung around till about 10 because I wanted to go buy a light coat. We set out and after a trip to the bank and gas station we went looking for a coat in a clothing store. However this huge store didn't even sell coats of any kind. I guess they just don't believe it'll ever rain here. So that was a fail.

We went house hunting next! We were looking for the house we wanted to buy with our lottery winnings. When we get them. We found some really nice beach properties you could almost smell the money from down the street. That was fun, driving around admiring how the other half live.

Today was going to be a much of a nothing day, mainly due to the weather. Just when you thought it cleared up, it started raining again, so we couldn't really get into much. During a dry spell we went to take a quick look at Chatham lighthouse and beach.

As you can see, not the best weather for going to the beach. So we moved on. We continued into Chatham to find the shark centre but it wasn't open till 1pm so we decided to go get lunch. We found a sandwich shop and got a couple of sandwiches to take out and found a beach with benches to sit on during a break in the weather to go eat them. This is typical of how today was going, we ate our lunch and it looked like it was clearing up but as soon as we got back in the car, the sky opened and it came down in sheets.

We found the shark centre and it was a small placed, it's aim was to raise money to make itself a resource centre for people to come learn about great white sharks. They didn't have too much there so far but it was quite interesting. There are a lot of sightings off the coast here of great whites and there was a video of one of the guys who works at the centre's fishing trip. He was intending to just go fishing and yet he found a couple of great whites around his boat. Sam learnt, while in the sandwich shop, there was even a sighting of a 15 foot great white this Friday gone and they sent a boat out to tag it. All very exciting for me. They even had a real shark cage outside, probably the closest I'll ever get to getting inside one.

The great white seems to be common place around here and Chatham seems to really embrace it's toothy visitor and tries to help with shark research as much as it can. This made me happy.

The night before, when we took a trip to the beach, we saw a few people flying kites. Some were using the kiteboarding kites and someone else was using a little stunt kite. So I requested we find a place that sold kites so we could get one to fly one evening. No! Not a kiteboarding kite - a little stunt kite. I wanted to teach Sam how to fly. So we went to a couple of shops looking for a cheap little stunt kite and finally found one for about 20 dollars. Hoping to get to fly that one evening.

We had a few chores to do like pick up some more wine etc so we did that on the way back to the cottage and we stopped off at the fish market which is opposite the cottage and Sam picked up a bag of fresh clams for steaming, for her dinner. I declined the offer for anything from the market for my dinner. Although I would eat some sea food, I wasn't really in the mood.

We hung out at the cottage before Sam started dinner, the weather was still cloudy but had stopped raining. Sam cooked - I had BBQ grilled steak, potato salad and corn on the cob, while Sam had her clams instead of steak. After I washed up, we cracked open the wine, well, I started on the wine, Sam had been sipping the whole time we had been back and we opened a board game she bought for the trip, in case of bad evenings, like tonight. After three games, 2 victories to me, we headed to bed around 11, hoping tomorrow will be a brighter day.
