Chris was bang on time and after a quick breakfast we left at exactly 5:30 plenty of time. We arrived in good time and I went for a smoke before checking my bag. Here is where problem number two raised. My flight vouchers said departing from terminal 2 but exceptions were flying to Newark and Houston were departing from terminal 4, so that's where I was. Couldn't find my flight info. After asking
For help, it turned out my flight WAS leaving from terminal 2. I had to rush to catch a train, rush to terminal 2 and check my bags. I had 15 mins to get from baggage check to the gate. After some faffing about with the wheelchair we made it just as the plane was boarding. What a relief.
Go on the plane and settled down for a long flight but wait, what's this? Oh yeh problems come in threes don't they? My in flight entertainment screen kept locking up or just not working at all, I managed to watch one film although half way through that an options menu came up and didn't go away for the rest of the film. Gah! Luckily I had uploaded some stuff to my iPad.
While I was waiting for the connecting flight I met a friendly fellow who noticed my flags, on my bag and on my leg. So we got to talking. He had moved out to the states some eight years ago, he was also British. So we Started talking and agreed to wait for each other at the end of the flight into Albany. Where, once we arrived, there was a wheelchair waiting for me but no one to push it. So this nice fellow offered to do it for me. He pushed me up to arrivals but I started feeling bad for him because it was on an incline and he had his own luggage with him, so I decided I'd walk the rest of the way, it wasn't far. We got our luggage and spoke some more. He gave me his phone number and we suggested meeting up once I got back from Cape cod. Could be fun. He went to catch a taxi and I waited for Sam to pick me up. I knew Sam was going to be late but it was ok, she turned up a little while later and took me home.
There at last! She offered me a welcomed couple of glasses of wine and we sat on the front porch eating muffins. It was a lovely evening so we decided to go spend an hour in Albany park before we went for dinner. It was beautiful. The fountains going, the ducks and geese and the wonderful scenery. We enjoyed that till we were getting hungry and drove off to the old English for fish and chips.
We sat outside at the old English. They had made a wonderful patio area outside with planters, benches a tiki bar and such, really well done and a joy to sit in. We had our fish and chips until Sam said I was looking tired. Turns out it was effectively 1am British time, no wonder I was feeling tired. I struggled on tho, enjoying the fact I was in America at last but when we got home I could barely sit withou closing my eyes so by 7pm, I was in bed and heading off to sleep.
What a wonderful first day and tomorrow we head to cape cod. Wifi may be hard to come by so don't expect such regular posts but I will certainly try. See you soon.
