The journey was fairly typical, a couple of traffic issues but nothing to worry about. An overall smooth four hours of traveling time and we arrived to a sunny Dennis in Cape Cod. We done a bit of shopping and it was off to the cottage. I saw the cottage last time I was here, the outside only as we drove past and Sam pointed it out but this time I got a full look see at where we were staying and I have to say, I was NOT disappointed!
It's small and very idilic nestled in a wooded area with plenty of greenery and very quaint looking. The door had a sweet sign on it saying "enter with a happy heart" and I think I did.
Inside was very cosy. You enter into the living area a few chairs and a sofa. The kitchen and dining area is to the left under a sloping roof with pretty little windows all around. Off the kitchen is a bedroom with a double bed. The room itself is cosy, with the sloping roof and cottage feel about it, I was almost tempted to take that room as my own.
I decided to take the bedroom to the right of the main enterance. The bathroom next to it but this bedroom is bigger, housing a double and a single bed but the biggest benefit to that room is that it had a sliding door that opened right out onto the decking.
Turns out we were not the only family staying here. All along the decking are bird boxes on the posts and I though no bird would nest in those, too close to the house. However, the bird box right by the kitchen has a family of tit like birds in it. I found this out as I sat in the deck chair having a smoke and the adults started toing and froing as they fed their babies. We are taking extra care to not disturb them too much while we are here but do enjoy watching them come and go as they feed the next generation of cute tiny winged friends.
This is the wonderful view of the deck and river right from my bedroom. With the bird box with the family of tits in it right in the centre of the picture.
The cottage is filled with little bits of cottage tat all very cute. From weathered wooden beach sins of the local towns to lighthouse ornaments and a brass weather station. Everywhere you look there is something else or another like a little sign in the bathroom saying "you never know how many friends you have till you own a cottage". The views from all angles are amazing, looking out over the river and the marshlands either side and other cottages all nestled in the tree line. I'm going to take more pictures on my camera to show you once I get back to Albany but needless to say, it's all very peaceful and idilic. This is where I'll be having my holiday within a holiday.
We settled in for a bit, took a walk down to the dock and sat there looking up stream as we watched kayakers going up and down the river in the warm sun. We looked at some brochures back on the decking, working out what we wanted to see and do. We decided to head out for the evening around 5 o'clock and Sam showed me the local beach. Even at that time of day, the water was quite warm, so maybe one day a beach trip is in order. Further down the beach there were some kite surfers and I watched them fly their huge kites for a bit before we headed out for dinner.
We found a place called the Sand Bar and sat outside on river's edge. It was starting to cool down by now but still plenty warm enough to sit outside and enjoy it. Sam had fish and chips, or fish and French fries, those were NOT chips with a side order of little necks, which are a small oyster type shell fish. I had a cheese burger with a side order of shrimps, although I had to pull off the tail myself, I rather enjoyed them.
We noticed the lad on the tiki bar making the side orders was being trained up. He'd come from Ireland for the summer and we talked about how he was in for a great working summer.
After dinner we decide to try some putt putt or crazy golf, or adventure golf. We went to pirate cove where I saw one little kiddie staring at my leg and as we walked past I said, In my best pirate voice "I'm a proper pirate" how we laughed. We paid and got our golf balls and putters and off we went. It was a very well laid out place, and a huge amount of fun. There was even a pirate ship and I had my friend Bill's voice in my head, in his best fake cockney accent, saying "it's a bloody pirate ship!" That may be why I screwed that shot up.
There were a fair few people there but we didn't have to wait long between holes. I scored a couple of great holes in one and Sam even managed to smack her ball into the water. It was advertised as swashbuckling fun and we agreed that was exactly what we had. We totted up the scores and found I had won by 5 points so I think Sam wants a rematch at some point. Bring it! Photos of our fun are coming soon.
After our buckles were well and truly swashed we headed back to the cottage, by now it was dark and we put the outside light on and sat outside with a glass of wine for a while before we decided to turn in for the night. I left my deck door open and just pulled the screen door across, so I could get the breeze through and the sound of the wind in the trees and headed to sleep.
A lovely place , sounds very relaxing , you even have birdies nearby to watch , thats so "you" *smiles*
ReplyDeleteIt's so pretty, wish you could see it. I have more photos to upload later but they are on my camera, so they will be uploaded when I have Internet connection.
